Weekly Homework
Your child will have homework every night in 4th grade. Monday - Thursday night they will have a short math and reading assignment. Each Friday students will have a word study test and a reading comprehension test. Students will bring words home at the beginning of the week to study for Friday's test. As we complete units in Math, Virginia Studies, and Science students will have tests. We will send home study guides or inform students what pages in their notebooks that they can use to study. At the end of each nine weeks students will take a Benchmark Test on the information learned during the nine week period. We will keep you informed of tests and benchmarks through our monthly newsletter, curriculum calendar and daily agenda. Your child will have homework every night. They will consistently have math to complete as well as some reading assignment. Currently we are working to build fluency so they have a fluency passage to read each night. They will have a word study test on Friday. As Reading, Geography, Science, and Math units are complete they will need to study for tests and benchmarks The homework is designed not to take more than 30 minutes each evening. Students are expected to complete homework nightly or will need to complete it during their free time the next day.

The Homework Dilemma
The basic rule is, "Don't do the assignments yourself." It's not your homework — it's your child's. It can be hard for parents to let children work through problems alone and learn from their mistakes. It's also hard to know where to draw the line between supporting and doing. Remember, don't confuse, "Helping with Homework" with "Helping"! How to Help: Help Your Child Get Organized Set up a Homework Schedule Schedule Breaks in the Study Routine Pick a Study Place Remove Distractions Provide Supplies and Identify Resources How to Help: Provide Guidance Talk About the Assignments Rank the Assignments Look Over Completed Assignments Note on Using Computers Give Praise How To Help: Monitor Homework Sessions Be Available but Allow Your Child Some Personal Space during the Homework Session Avoid Doing or Finishing Assignments For Your Child And Finally - Accept the Challenge Click Below for the Entire Article – Which will give you details for each suggestion. |
